As stock began to lose its value, shareholders (those who owned stock) got very nervous. They had to decide if they would wait it out and risk everything, or sell now before they lost everything. They chose to sell. This caused prices to go even farther down, and cause a great panic. Thursday, October 24, 1929 became known as Black Thursday, the day everyone rushed to sell their stocks.
