This mock opening statement was created live at Trial Revolution by Catherine Carr, VP of Marketing for Haiku Deck. The presentation took about 10 minutes to make and was created entirely on iPad.

It is meant to illustrate how Haiku Deck for iPad can revolutionize communication for lawyers, saving them time creation time and making their messages clearer, more powerful, and easier to understand.

"It was a Tuesday afternoon and my client, Ms. Carr, was leaving work to go pick up her daughter at school."

This is a mock opening statement describing an actual traffic accident.

These slides are meant to illustrate how information might be communicated (in other words, they were not created by a lawyer)!

Royal Brougham Way

"Ms. Carr was headed toward I-90, by the stadiums. This stretch of road functions like a highway on-ramp, but there is an intersection with a traffic light."

Haiku Deck includes a powerful built-in keyword search that puts millions of free, high-quality Creative Commons licenses at your fingertips. This is one example. It perfectly illustrates the exact intersection where the accident occurred.

Untitled Slide

"After pulling to a stop, she happened to glance up at her rear-view mirror in time to see the car behind her about to slam into her. There was nowhere to go and no time to react; she just braced herself for the impact."

Untitled Slide

"There was a loud crash and the sound of shattering glass..."

Untitled Slide

"The vehicle slammed into Ms. Carr's vehicle, and both airbags deployed."

Untitled Slide

"The driver's wife was injured in the crash and taken to the hospital by ambulance."

Untitled Slide

"The Police Report issued at the scene clearly identified the other driver as being at fault, for failing to notice the red light."

(This is an example of where you would import your own image into Haiku Deck--in this case, a copy of the actual police report. This report was annotated for emphasis using Evernote Skitch.)

DAMAGE

Damage to vehicle

"The back of my client's vehicle sustained severe damage, as you can see in this photo."

(Here, and in subsequent photos with X-rays, you would use actual specific photos and screen shots.)

Damage to neck and spine

"My client was also treated for whiplash."

Damage to hip

"After the collision, my client also started experiencing problems with her left hip."

Lost billable hours

"My client works as an independent consultant, and over the course of the next few months, she lost more than 100 billable hours receiving chiropractic and other medical treatment as a result of this incident. This represents more than $15K in lost income."

"Other kinds of damage are harder to quantify. My client, an avid runner, was not able to run without pain for months after this incident."
