PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Can you name all 10 Commandments?

1. No God's "before" Yahweh

Is God sharing you
this morning?

2. No Idols or
Carved Images

What are those "images" or "idols" in your family?

3. Do not take or use God's name in Vain

“"Again you have heard that it was said to those of old, 'You shall not swear falsely, but shall perform to the Lord what you have sworn.

But I say to you, Do not take an oath at all, either by heaven, for it is the throne of God, or by the earth, for it is his footstool, or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the great King. And do not take an oath by your head, for you cannot make one hair white or black.

Let what you say be simply 'Yes' or 'No'; anything more than this comes from evil.”
Matthew 5:33-37

If we cannot be trusted with trivial things can we be trusted with telling the truth about the most important things like who is God and what is He like?

4. Remember to Sabbath like God

Do you know the difference between numbing and escaping vs.
resting and reflecting?

5. Honor your Father and Mother

6. Do not Murder
7. Do not Commit Adultery
8. Do not Steal

“Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs
of life.”
Proverbs 4:23

9. Do not Bear False Witness

10. Do not Covet

When God is not your provider and cannot satisfy you... what is your natural reaction?

What's the Big Deal about the 10 Commandments?

Source: God

Content: Commands

Purpose:
To reveal who God is, who we are, and to guide us into a truly satisfying life.

“Now the law came in to increase the trespass, but where sin increased, grace abounded all the more, so that, as sin reigned in death, grace also might reign through righteousness leading to eternal life through Jesus Christ
our Lord.”
Romans 5:20-21

The progression of 10 commandments makes it so Jesus can rightfully sum it up with “love God, love others”.

Jesus is the better example of true humanity.

Jesus is the better one and only unique Son.

Jesus is the better mediator of God's words because He is the word that became flesh. Jesus mediates God's commands or what it looks like to be God’s people.

“"The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet like me from among you, from your brothers—it is to him you shall listen”
Deut. 18:15

“For you have not come to what may be touched, a blazing fire and darkness and gloom and a tempest and the sound of a trumpet and a voice whose words made the hearers beg that no further messages be spoken to them. For they could not endure the order that was given, "If even a beast touches the mountain, it shall be stoned." Indeed, so terrifying was the sight that Moses said, "I tremble with fear."

But you have come to Mount Zion and to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem, and to innumerable angels in festal gathering, and to the assembly of the firstborn who are enrolled in heaven, and to God, the judge of all, and to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, and to Jesus, the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.
