Practical Application:

  • Remember those days of love, recognize how far you have come.
  • Repent from going elsewhere.
  • Start doing those little things that you did at first.

Just as it is possible to have a functional but loveless marriage, it is possible to have a functional but loveless faith.

Revelation 2:8-11

“So we do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, our inner self is being renewed day by day. For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison,

as we look not to the things that are seen but to the things that are unseen. For the things that are seen are transient, but the things that are unseen are eternal.”
2 Cor. 4:16-18

“And do not fear those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Rather fear him who can destroy both soul and body in hell.”
Matthew 10:28

We should not expect to be spared from tribulation or suffering in this momentary life but there is a much greater and eternal suffering that we will not have to endure.

Revelation 2:12-17

The kind of care and keeping Jesus wants to give to you is better than what anyone or anything else could ever promise to deliver.

What is holding you back?

You are still so used to the partial care and survival you knew before coming to Christ that you have not pursued a better way of life and thriving living in light of the gospel.

The Church Thyatira

Revelation 2:18-28

“The cause of Christ is not served if Christians appear as a group of old fashioned people always trying to retreat from the real world. Christians live in the same world as their neighbors and face the same problems. They must find Christian solutions.”
Morris

“And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.”
Galatians 6:9

God is working out and crafting a better future for us than we could workout or craft for ourselves in the time it takes any craftsman to make something truly beautiful.

What is holding you back?

You are still so use to your timeline and creating your own future you do not know how to rely on God for this.

The Church in Sardis

Revelation 3:1-6

Your privilege does not give you license to live a sheltered apathetic life. Your privilege is fuel for an adventure with God.

What is holding you back?

You have allowed comfort and apparent safety to trump any sort of urgency, risk, and reality to what God is really trying to do in your life.

The Church in Philadelphia

Revelation 3:7-13

“For no one is a Jew who is merely one outwardly, nor is circumcision outward and physical. But a Jew is one inwardly, and circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the letter. His praise is not from man but from God.”
Romans 2:28-29

Simple and small obedience creates opportunity for divine significance and purpose to be revealed.

“There is no one farther from the truth in Christ than the one who makes an idle profession without real faith.”
Walvoord

Life is too short, is too precious, and has greater implications to be concluded as nothing more than wasted in the end.
