I.The God who Gives and Takes Away:

Acts 13:13-25

Paul’s Main Point is that we were made for a King and we have been given a “Promised King"

God takes away or allows things to be taken away... How does this affect us keeping Jesus on the throne of our lives?

God takes Away:

  • At times we live in a time where the Lord takes away or allows to be taken away what we would consider our stability.

In these circumstances I struggle with God being on the throne over my life because?

We like control and what we can see but there are times where we must walk by faith/trust in who God is and not by what we see or even “feel”.

God takes Away:

  • We become too attached and “need” things and people. Maybe these are “bad” or “unhealthy” things and people we are holding onto. God is going to take them away or allow them to be taken away to strengthen our faith and prove our need for Him is enough.

In this season I struggle with God being on the throne over my life because?

Because, particularly with good things, we think we have earned or deserve those things and we can come to God with an entitlement mindset.

God takes Away:

  • Sometimes we go through seasons of the Lord giving and taking away of important people. For instance, the Lord has given you your parents and some of you are living in a season where your parents have been taken back by the Lord in His timing. Some of you are living in a season where a close friend has been taken back by the Lord maybe through death or through distance.

In this season I struggle with God being on the throne over my life because?

We want all seasons to be “harvest” seasons. We don’t want preparing seasons or planting seasons or pruning seasons but these are all seasons that bring fruitfulness.

God Gives:

  • There are times where I know I am given stability, strength, and even status by the Lord for His glory.

In these circumstances I struggle with God being on the throne of my life because?

I lose the feeling, thought and reality of my own “neediness” for the Lord. Every day, every hour.

God Gives:

  • There are times where I am given the things and people that I “need” and pray for.

In this season I struggle with God being on the throne of my life because?

I do not live in worshipful thankfulness recognizing that all these good things and answered prayers have come from God.

God Gives:

  • There are seasons where God brings new people into our lives. People who we are meant to connect with in a deep way that may be similar to the connections we had in the past but they may also look differently.

In this season I struggle with God being on the throne of my life because?

We are creatures of habits and we want the familiarity of the friends, times, and people that we reminisce and as a consequence of this we miss what God might want to do because it’s new.

The Promise of Freedom:

  • The Promise of Freedom has come at a known cost.
  • The promise of freedom has come so that the promises of Jesus could be said about us.

The Promise of Freedom:

  • The Promise of Freedom has come at a known cost.
  • The promise of freedom has come so that the promises of Jesus could be said about us.
  • The promise of freedom has come to free us from everything the Law never could do.

“We ourselves are Jews by birth and not Gentile sinners; yet we know that a person is not justified by works of the law but through faith in Jesus Christ, so we also have believed in Christ Jesus, in order to be justified by faith in Christ and not by works of the law, because by works of the law no one will be justified.”
Galatians 2:15-16

“Now we know that whatever the law says it speaks to those who are under the law, so that every mouth may be stopped, and the whole world may be held accountable to God. For by works of the law no human being will be justified in his sight, since through the law comes knowledge of sin.

But now the righteousness of God has been manifested apart from the law, although the Law and the Prophets bear witness to it— the righteousness of God through faith in Jesus Christ
for all who believe.
Romans 3:19-22

You were born in sin, the original sin from Adam and Eve is laced in your DNA. From a young age your heart has suffered from rebellion as a symptom of this
original sin.

The good news is there is no need to pretend or strive to do a work that is frustrating because it is impossible.

The good news is Jesus has accomplished this work for you and has been perfect on your behalf and invites you into the freedom of His perfection.

This perfection and justification you will press into more and more as you keep Jesus on the throne over your life.
