Suspensions

Properties

  • It is a Heterogeneous mixture.
  • Particles cannot be seen by naked eye.
  • Particles cannot be seperated by filtration.
  • Particles settle down and solution is unstable.
  • Path of light is visible when we scatter light.(Tyndall Effect)

Properties

  • It is a heterogeneous mixture.
  • Particles cannot be seen by naked eye.
  • Solute particles cannot be seperated by filtration.
  • Solute Particles do not settle down and the solution is stable.
  • Path of light is visible when we scatter light(Tyndall Effect).
  • It looks like a homogeneous mixture.

Colloids have properties of both solutions and suspension.

Colloids cannot be separated by filtration but can be separated by centrifugation
