LOCATION:

Location:Utah located on the southern eastern end of utah

HISTORY:

  • Date established: 1909
  • Area of park: 146,598 acres
  • Visitors a year: about 2.97 million
  • 12,000 years ago there was mammoths and camels in zion national park

GEOLOGICAL FORMATIONS

  • Layers were uplifted, tilted, and eroded.
  • Zion was a relatively flat basin near sea level 240 mya.
  • Sands, gravels, and muds eroded from mtns.
  • Streams carried materials into basin, deposited them into layers.
  • Virgin river carved the canyons in zion and continues to shape zion.

PARK CHANGES:

  • The park has been and is still affected by water
  • Wind, and animals.
  • Waterf flows and solid rock melts into cliffs.
