When Ma He was 10 the Ming army invaded Yunnan, Ma He was captured

Ma He was given to the Emperor's Fourth son Zhu Di as a servant
Zhu Di took Ma he to help him with campaigns on horse back, which made Ma He become very strong, brave,and a excellent fighter.

When The Emperor died Zhu Di took the thone by force. With the help of Ma He, Zhu Di became Emperor Yongle.

Zhu Di made his companion Ma He chief of servants and changed Ma He's name to Zheng He in commemoration of their victory.
The Yongle proved very ambitious he wanted to make his empire flourish and in order to do that he needed to control the trading in the Indian Ocean.
He assigned Zheng He as supervisor of construction and commander of a fleet of 3,500 ships.
