ZEPHANIAH

  • He was a prophet, from 640-609 BC and son of Cushi
  • Most of his time is spent in Judah and Jerusalem
  • His story focuses on bringing the people of Judah back to God
  • The beginning of the book is sad, as god wants to kill everyone
  • But becomes happy as they're saved

THIS IS A MAP OF WHERE HE RULED

His primary purpose was to fix the behaviors of those from Judah. Their main problem was they fell astray from God by worshipping false idols

We believe that he succeeded with his message, as God didn't feel the need to destroy everyone for their lack of faith

I will consume man and beast; I will consume the fowls of the heaven, and the fishes of the sea, and the stumblingblocks with the wicked; and I will cut off man from off the land, saith the Lord.
(Zephaniah 1:3)

Seek ye the Lord, all ye meek of the earth, which have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek meekness: it may be ye shall be hid in the day of the Lord's anger. (‭Zephaniah‬ ‭2‬:‭3‬)

This passage is about trying to be meek and righteous to save yourself from God, and to prove yourself worthy of God.

The Lord thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing. (‭Zephaniah‬ ‭3‬:‭17‬ KJV)

Here we see that God is happy that humanity had finally found their way back

Some of Zephaniah's teachings can relate to Marist students by his common interest with keeping God close beside us.
