Construction of YVR started in 1930's. The city of Vancouver bought land on Sea Island in Richmond to build an airport. At the time the airport was mostly used for Royal Canadian Airforce training.
Over the years the airport was expanded. For example, new terminals new gates and runways.
In the 1980's there was a huge renovation. That's when airlines like Cathay pacific, British airways, KLM and air China joined YVR.
Today 53 airlines use YVR connecting people all over the world.
My tour guide Joan Colvin who showed me around the airport, February 1st, told me that over 300 planes land a day in the winter and over 370 planes land at the airport on a summer day.
