Yemen

Yemen has very fertile lands, a flat sandy plain, and high desert slopes.

Its climate is a dry, hot desert with low annual rainfall.

Water is scarce, especially in the highlands. 80% of the country's population struggles to access water. Groundwater is the main source of water.

Northern Yemen traditionally supports food processing.The largest industry in southern Yemen is petroleum refining. Industrial production accounts for 40% of GDP.

Yemen is currently facing a humanitarian crisis, a water crisis, an impending famine, deep divisions and proxy war, and hundreds of thousands of refugees.

The population of Yemen is about 24 million. The average life expectancy is about 62 years.

Yemen's GDP is $14.8 billion and $820 per capita.

Yemen is the 32nd largest oil exporter. Yemen has oil reserves around 2.7 billion barrels.
