MY DESIGN... AND THE REAL THING!

  • My prototype looked something like this:

AND MY FINISHED PROJECT LOOKED LIKE THIS!

  • Big difference!!!!!!!

WHAT TOOLS DID I USE?

  • 1. TINY FILES, VACCUM former, G-CLAMP, BAND SAW, FRETE SAW, SAND Paper, orbital sander, hole making thingy... Pillar drill

WHY DID MY FIRST DESIGN NOT WORK?

  • Well, trying to cut out a treble clef from wood and then filing away the tiny bits in the middle is hard work, and very fiddly.

PLUS...

  • They kept breaking!

DUN...

DUN... DUN!

Untitled Slide

  • Anyway, I eventually saw sense and started all over again!
  • By this time we only had 2 lessons left!

FIRST

  • I gave up on the treble clef and cut out a small square piece of ply wood, at first I didn't like this as it had lots of layers, I gave it a ridge and painted it white to make it more interesting.

THEN

  • Then from the same big piece of ply wood I cut out 2 tiny rectangles on the fret saw and painted them pink, I took a lot of layers to make sure it was opaque. I then stuck these to the base.

  • Then a bigger piece was measured (with a ruler!) and cut out using band saw.
  • This was to go over/between the two tiny pink bits.

  • Next I made three shallow holes in the slightly larger piece of ply wood using the pillar drill.
  • Ps. That is not a pillar drill I just could find any other type of drill!!!!😂

Untitled Slide

  • Then I used the vacuum former To fill in the hole I made with pink plastic, this took lots of tries!
  • Next I sanded the front of this leaving only the plastic in the holes, this also took along time!

AT LONG LONG LAST

  • Finally Took the pink plastic things and stuck them in the holes using PVA glue.
  • Then I stuck the whole piece of wood on top of the the tiny ones.

  • And that's it, all I did next is draw some musical notes on the base and that was it.
