TANKS AND UNIFORMS OF BRITAIN

DURING WW2

BRITISH UNIFORMS (HEAD)

  • primary headgear would have been the MkII helmet covered with a hessian (burlap) cover,
  • At base the Field Service Cap and certain unit specific headgear such as the Glengary would be worn.
  • Soldiers carried a gasmask in their backpack that was easily accessible
  • There were different types of helmets worn by different classes of soldiers

BRITISH UNIFORMS (FOOTWEAR)

  • Footwear would be the toecapped amunition boot
  • Combat boots were worn by soldiers during combat or physical training
  • The combat foots were made similar to basketball shoes, with high ankle support to insure safety
  • This boot had an attached two-buckled leather ankle flap, which was designed to replace canvas leggings

BRITISH UNIFORMS(CHEST)

  • The British army jacket was called the "Battledress Uniforms"
  • Had color that varied from khaki brown to a darker shade of brown
  • jacket had closed neck with afliat buttons down the front
  • waist belt that was sewen into the lower part of the jacket to keep it closed up
  • comes with pleated wire waist tab buckle

BRITISH UNIFORMS(TROUSERS)

  • British army trousers are made from khaki brown to a darker shade fabric as the tunic.
  • The trousers came full cut with a button fly
  • Trousers had two front and two rear pocket, and larger cargo pocket

LIGHT TANKS

  • Light tanks were a series of similar small tanks produced by Britain
  • mainly for use in Imperial duties
  • They saw use in training, and in engagements with British Imperial units in colonial policing actions before the war.
  • All were about 5 tonnes, the earlier models had a crew of two and were armed with a 0.303 Vickers machine gun.

CRUISER TANKS

  • These medium-sized cruiser tanks were the mainstay of British armoured units during the war.
  • designed to operate independently of the slow-moving infantry and their more heavily armoured infantry tank
  • They were built specifically to fight a mobile war against other tanks
  • They were armed with anti-tank guns, from the QF 2 pdr to the QF 17 pdr or the general purpose 75 mm.
