UNITED STATES PROPAGANDA

  • Used to increase support for the war and commitment to an allied victory
  • This made the hatred for the enemy and support for America's allies
  • People saved some of their materials so that more material could be used for the war
  • "Patriotism became the central theme of advertising throughout the war

JAPAN PROPAGANDA

  • Designed to assist the ruling government at the time of war
  • Used this to persuade occupied countries to undermine American troop's morale
  • Wanted to present the war to the Japanese people as victorious

GERMANY PROPAGANDA

  • Used by the NDSAP in the years leading up to and during Adolf Hitler's reign
  • Included the pursuit of "total war" and extermination of millions of people in the Holocaust
  • National Socialist propaganda provided a crucial instrument for acquiring power
  • Hitler and Nazi propagandists played on the anti-Semitism and resentment present in Germany
  • Posters, films, cartoons, and fliers were seen throughout Germany

  • influence the population towards support for the war effort
  • Traditional forms such as newspapers and posters were joined by new media including cinema (film), newsreels
  • fostering hostility to the enemy, support for allies, and specific pro war projects
  • Propaganda was deployed to encourage people to volunteer for onerous or dangerous war work
