Type 87 Chi-I medium tank (Experimental 1st tank)

  • Designing began on June 1925
  • Design was completed on May 1926
  • production was ordered to begin at the Osaka Army Arsenal
  • prototype was completed in February 1927
  • Prototype caught fire

CONT.

  • acted as incentive for the Japanese to adopt Diesel engines
  • Many IJA generals attended the trials of the Type 87
  • on June 21–22, 1927
  • The tank then showed acceptable performance
