THE BATTLE OF MIDWAY

Date: June 4-7,1942(6 months after the bombing of Pearl Harbor).
Location:Midway Atoll, North Pacific Ocean
Who vs. who: Japanese against the United States

After Pearl Harbor, Japanese Navy wanted to sink the American aircraft carries that escaped the bombing of Pearl Harbor.

3 DETAILS

  • The United States Navy was able to plan and prepare for it's own ambush
  • They could because they broke the Japanese code and found out exactly was was going on
  • The Japanese was intending to take over Midway to extend their defensive perimeter.

"They had no right to win, yet they did, and in doing so they changed the course of a war. More than that, they added a new name-Midway- to that small list that inspires men..."

United States takes the victory!
Japanese losses thousands of men and carriers and aircrafts.
U.S. lost hundreds of men, but gained a great victory that impacted WW2.

THE OVERALL IMPACT:

IT ALLOWED U.S. AND ALLIES TO MOVE INTO AN OFFENSIVE POSITION AND MADE IT EASIER TO MAKE MORE ATTACKS ON JAPAN IN THE FUTURE
