ZIMMERMAN TELEGRAM

  • Telegram going from Germany to Mexico
  • Wanting Mexico to join their side of the war
  • British intercepts it and decodes the message

  • The U.S declares war against Germany
  • U.S officially enters the war

  • A ship was sunk by the Germans
  • 2,000 passengers
  • 1,201 were killed
  • Including 128 Americans
  • U.S demanded respiration

  • Wilson issues 14 points to peace

  • Congress passed a 250 million appropriations bill
  • intended to ready the United States for war.

LATE MARCH

  • Germany sank four more U.S merchant ships
  • Wilson immediately adopted a policy of conscription

NOVEMBER 11

  • Germans sign the armistice
  • In Compiegne, France
  • Ends on the 11th hour, 11th day and the11th month

WAR ENDS OFFICIALLY

  • Treat of Versailles ends the war
