Pre-writing

  • Get your first ideas down at this stage. Here are some tips:
  • Write the same thing 7 times in a row, it doesn't matter - just keep writing
  • Use drawings or graphic organizers instead of complete sentences
  • Record a conversation between you and a friend which explains some of your ideas
  • Listen to recording, select related ideas, place them in categories
  • Find proof -textual evidence-that supports your ideas. Document that proof
  • Consider possible organizational structures for your essay, short story, or poem.
