The reason this event is important is because when Hitler gained power this brought the Nazi party to life and over time started the war.

Because of the invasion of Poland this was the official start of World War 2.

Warsaw surrenders on September 27. The Polish government flees to Romania. Germany and the Soviet Union divide up Poland.

The reason this is important is because this helped to make Germany and the Soviet Union allies.

The invasion of Norway and Denmark had no significant effect on the outcome of the war, but it started the new era of modern warfare.

Germany attacks western Europe.

This attack caused France to sign an armistice agreement where Germans ruled the northern half of the country and the entire Atlantic coastline.

June 10, 1940
Italy enters the war.

Because of Italy entering the war, this formed an alliance with Germany and made them both more powerful.

July 10, 1940–October 31, 1940
Battle of Britain ends in defeat for Nazi Germany.

The reason this battle was so important was because The Battle of Britain was a turning point in WWII. It was the first German loss in the war. The battle showed that Germany could be defeated.

September 27, 1940
Germany, Italy, and Japan sign the Tripartite Pact.

The Axis powers are officially formed with the signing of the Tripartite Pact in Berlin. The Pact made sure that if any other country were to attack one another they would assist them in defeating the enemy.

The day after the assault, President Franklin D. Roosevelt asked Congress for their approval to declare war on Japan and it was approved.

After the Axis powers declared war on the US this caused the US to finally officially enter the war and joins the Allied powers.

Japanese Navy planed to destroy the U.S. Pacific Fleet. But at the Battle of Midway, the U.S. Navy surprised its enemy, sinking four aircraft carriers and changing the momentum of the war in the Pacific.

Because of the surrender this ended the North African campaign.

Because of this event the following happened: Warsaw and Krakow became free in January. Budapest was captured after a two-month siege on February 13. The Germans and their Hungarian collaborators were driven out of Hungary in early April, forcing the surrender of Slovakia and Vienna.

April 30, 1945

The significance of Hitler committing suicide is that when he dies so do the Nazis. Without their leader the Nazis are nothing and it is proven because they surrender shortly after his death.

May 7, 1945
Germany surrenders to the western Allies.

May 9, 1945
Germany surrenders to the Soviets.

Both of these events mark the end of the Nazis raid and puts Germany out of the war.

August 9, 1945
The United States drops an atomic bomb on Nagasaki.

An estimated 70,000 fatalities and 75,000 injuries were recorded as a result of the bomb. Because of the bomb within days Japan surrendered and the war was finally at its end.

I believe that one of the key factors that caused the Allied powers to win the war is because of Hitlers decisions. He was over aggressive with many of his decisions including the thought he could take over the Soviet Union but he was wrong and because of the Soviets Germany was defeated.

Another reason that the Allied powers won the war is because of technology. We were the first to use atomic bombs in war and the effect was devastating to Japan and caused them to surrender.

The last reason why the Allied Powers won was because the Soviets wanted revenge on Germany for betraying them. Germany decided to turn on them during the war and the Soviets took that as motivation to destroy Germany and joined the Allies.
