  • study generalizations that govern how syllables are joined
  • study how affixes (pre-fixes and suffixes) affect word meaning

Steps to learning words

  • Examine the word for meaningful parts.
  • Look at the base, see if you know, develop a related word.

Learning words

  • If you don't know it, look it up (student dictionary)
  • Read the new word on a chart or word study notebook
