About the Game

Description:
Word Out - Are you familiar with the game called Tetris? Did you enjoy playing it? Now, imagine a game similar to Tetris but instead of descending shapes, Word Out provides descending letters used to form meaningful words in order to be destroyed. It is an educational game that challenges players to think quickly as they form words from random letters. It encourages players to expand vocabulary and helps with the development of reading skills. Learning new words doesn’t have to be a bore when you play Word Out!

Audience

7 years old and above

Objectives:
Get into the action of creating words with falling letters blocks from the top of the screen, and you must form at least 3-lettered words horizontally or vertically.

Instructions:
Use the left, down, and right arrow keys to control the direction of the descending letter blocks. Use the blocks to form a minimum of three letter words vertically or horizontally. If a bomb appears you can land it on a block to destroy all blocks of the same letter. When a block of fire lands on a letter block it will spread horizontally until it is blocked by a wall, letter block, or empty space. The fire block will then destroy all connected blocks in its path.

Individual Reflections

about Word Out

Ivym
Word Out is a simple educational game players from second grade and up would really enjoy and learn from. The game allows the players to think quickly and effectively in forming words from the falling letters. Furthermore, it challenges them to be strategic in which spot they would place the letters to be able to form as many words they can. I really recommend this game for parents and teachers to use because it enhances the player’s language literacy most especially, in reading, spelling, and writing skills.

Jhenirose
Word Out simply targets an audience specifically the ages of 7 and up to challenge and even improve one’s vocabulary skills. Just like the classic game of Tetris, the goal is to make words out of the blocks to clear them out. The challenge however, is that words can only go in a vertical or horizontal direction. The game is great for parents, teachers and students to enhance language skills in a fun way.

Victoria
Word Out is a fun game to play as you challenge yourself and your ability to think fast as you create words. I recommend this game for anyone parents to promote reading skills and vocabulary for their children. I encourage adults to use this game to stimulate their minds, keeping it mentally active daily. I am confident that this could be a big hit, like Solitaire.

Cherise
Word Out is a great game for players 7 years old and up to practice their spelling skills. I appreciate that the game challenges the player to think quickly and place the descending letter blocks in a strategic manner in order to create meaningful words to earn points. The game also allows players to expand their vocabulary skills. There are times when the player sets the letter block down and they create a word that they are unfamiliar with. The players can write the word down and look it up in the dictionary after they have finished the game. Word Out is a simple, yet fun, and challenging game that I would recommend to both parents and teachers. I am confident that students would play the game outside of the classroom and their parents will enjoy playing too.
