Woodrow Wilson was the 28th president of America and served two terms. He was president during a crucial time and was elected a second time because he promised to keep America out of the war, and he did for 3 years. His diplomacy pulled America off the brink of war many times.
The first decision Wilson made that greatly affected the United States was the decision to isolate and stay neutral. This decision pleased not just Americans but many other countries because the USA was large. Americans essentially believed that the war wasn't their problem, yet it really was because it affected trade over seas tremendously due to the German u boats sinking ships of trade. And Americans were being killed even though it wasn't many. I personally don't think isolation was the best choice for America.
In April 1917 Wilson asked congress to declare war on Germany, which they did and in 18 months America built up a military of 18 million. This affected Americans greatly. After WWI America was a superpower because of how big there military was. This helped America winWWII. It also brought America out of a long line of isolation from national goings on.
Do I believe Wilson made the right decision? Mostly, this is because I don't agree with why he made it but if he never did America would never become the superpower it is today. Also I believe if we never enter the war Germany and AH would've won. I believe Wilson should've made the decision due to more moral reasons like Americans were being killed and so were British who they were closely allied with, not because they were losing money.
A connection to what is going on in the world now to the way America was then is the war on Isis. Many Americans believe Isis is not our problem, just like the Americans then not seeing the war as their problem.
