How big is the park

Wood Buffalo National Park is located in Alberta Canada. This national park is the largest national park in Canada and the 2nd largest national park in the world . In area this park is lager than Switzerland. As in area this national treasure is 17,300 sq mi (44,800,sq km). As Switzerland is only 15,940 mi and Switzerland is a country.

Cranes


The park was established in 1922 to protect the last natural nesting sites of whooping cranes and sand hill cranes. Whooping cranes are dangerously close to extinction

What’s in the park

Wood Buffalo has 250 plant species, 47 mammal species, and many common bird species. It also has one of the largest water casting spaces.

Bears, wolves, lynx, fox, beavers, snowshoe hare,
buffalo, coyotes, mountain lion, and many more of other mammals.

Birds in the park

sand hill cranes, whooping canes, hawks, owls, eagles, white pelicans, and falcons.

Founder

explorer Peter Pond is believed to have passed through the region in 1785, likely the first European to do so, followed by Alexander Mackenzie.

History

This park was made to protect the last free roaming wood buffalo herd. It is a natural whooping crane and sand hill cranes nesting sites.

Is Wood Buffalo National Park important

Yes because it holds North Americas largest wild buffalo herd. Also they are the only natural whooping cranes and sand hill cranes nesting sites.

Conclusion

I think Wood Buffalo National Park would be a fun place to go if you like wildlife.
