In the Beginning

• 1892 was the start with thanks to Senda Abbott
• First Contest: University of California vs. Miss Heads School
• April 4, 1896 was the first women basketball game in collegiate games.
• In 1925, 37 states hold high school varsity and state tournaments.

• 1953, USA basketball wins gold medal in World Champs!
• President Richard Nixon signs Title IX.
• July 1976, USA wins silver medal at Montreal Olympics
• 1984, USA wins gold at LA
• 1988, USA wins gold at Seoul and a bronze  at Barcelona in 1992

The Beginning of success

• 1996, USA recapture gold at Centennial. The drive for five begins.
• The first players sing to play in the WNBA.
• February 27, 1997, the Elite draft takes place.
• April 28, 1997, WNBA hold its draft for college players.
• June 21, 1997, the inaugural WNBA season begins.

• The first points of the WNBA was scored by Penny Toler.
• Another great moment was when Teresa Weatherspoon scored a half court buzzer beater
• Lisa Leslie threw down a dunk in 2003.
