MOOSE (ALCES ALCES)

  • The North American moose is the largest member of the deer family.
  • A full grown moose can weigh up to 770 pounds and 6 meters long.
  • Their skin is a very dark brown.
  • They live in areas with lots of undergrowth because thats what they eat.
  • Their biggest defensive against predators are their size.

WHITE TAIL DEER (ODOCOILEUS VIRIGINANUS)

  • The white tail dear is the most common dear in North America.
  • They have a light brown back and a white underbelly.
  • They live in areas with lots of plants.
  • A very common place to find them is a 2 year old clear cut.
  • They are well distributed throughout the world.

BALD EAGLE (HALIAEETUS LEUCOCEPHALUS)

  • The Bald eagle is a symbol of American majestic, strength, and long life.
  • The feather on its head are all completely white and its beak is bright yellow.
  • The rest of its body is black except for the white tail feathers.
  • They live in Alaska, northern Canada, and the rockies, But migrate all the way to Mexico.
  • They love living near lakes that are stocked with fish, But will eat almost anything depending were they live.

ELK (CERVUS CANADENISIS)

  • Elk are the one of the largest members of the deer family.
  • They are native to North America and Eastern Asia.
  • They have been introduced to Argentina, Australia, and New Zealand.
  • They live in the forest and on forests edge.
  • They feed on grasses, plants, leaves, and bark.

BOBCAT (LYNX RUFUS)

  • They are often confused with the lynx.
  • They are commonly found in Canada and America.
  • They prefer to eat rabbits and hares but will eat small rodents.
  • They inhabi wooded areas, the urban ledge, Forest edges, and swamp lands.
  • They have a distinctive Gray and sometimes brown coat, pointy ears and a tufted up face.

Grizzly Bear ( Urus arctos ssp)

  • The grizzly bear and the brown bear are not the same thing.
  • The grizzly is actually a subspeices of the brown bear.
  • They are usually solitary exept when they have cubs.
  • They are found in Alaska and Canada.
  • They are commonly found in wooded and open areas.

SQUIRREL (SCIURIDAE)

  • They are the most common rodent sen by people.
  • They eat nuts and berries that they can find.
  • They are found in wooded areas and feilds.
  • They will burry nuts in the ground and dig them up in the winter to eat.
  • They are a favorite food for many birds of prey.

GREY WOLF (CANIS LUPUS)

  • They inhabit most of the forests of Canada, Alaska, and Siberia.
  • They prey mostly on Caribou, dear, and any live stock that they can find.
  • They live in packs, this helps them when they hunt, and when raising young.
  • All dogs today are ancestors of the grey wolf.
  • Sometimes they have a black coat instead of grey.

DOLLY VARDEN (SLAVELINUS MALMA MALMA)

  • Most people call them either a salmon or trout.
  • But technically they are a char.
  • They range from Puget Sound in Wa. all the way to Siberian rivers.
  • Their biggest predators are the Bald eagle.
  • They eat small fish, but they will also eat insects and bugs.

RAINBOW TROUT (ONCORHYNCHUS MYKISS)

  • The rainbow trout is native to North America and some parts of Asia.
  • Now days they are a favorite of the sports angler.
  • Some of them migrate to the ocean and come back in 2-3 years.
  • They eat small fish and insects.
  • Hatcheires grow them and stock them into lakes and rivers for our enjoyment.

  • The black bear is the most deadly bear to humans.
  • The black bear is native to North America.
  • They have a completely black coat.
  • They are omnivores and very opportunistic eaters.
  • Good pllaces to find them are in woodd areas and wide open fields.

CANADA BUFFLO BERRY (SHEPHERDIA CANAADESIS)

  • This plant is a deciduous shrub shrub found in North America.
  • The berries are small round and red.
  • They have a extremely bitter taste.
  • They are crushed and mashed with other berries and used as jam.
  • They are sometimes called The soap berry and the foanberry.

CASCADE BILBERRY (VACCINUM DELICIOM)

  • This berry is sometimes mistaken for a wild blueberry.
  • It only grows at elevations of 600- 2,000 meters in elevation.
  • The plant looks lake a clumpy tangled stem.
  • They berries are a waxy blue or reddish.
  • They are a favorite of local population.

  • These birds are found all the way from Alaska to Mexico.
  • Their main diet is insects, but they also eat a lot of berries.

  • Some authorities consider mosquitoes the most dangerous animal in the world.

GREAT grey OWL (STRIX NEBULOSA)

  • These are some of the biggest owls on the planet.
  • Their Faces are flat because they have large facial disks that funnel sound.
  • They can hear mice tunneling under the snow with these faisal disks.
  • They feathers are Light brown grey and white.
  • The males are usually smaller than the females.

  • This is the second largest animal in North America.
  • It lives all the way from Alaska to Mexico.
  • They are nocturnal, which means that they only com out at night.
  • Underneath heir spines they are a rally dark brown.
  • They are about 2-3 feet long.

  • They are native to Alaska, northern Canada, scandinavia, and Russia.
  • Their bodies are short and slender.
  • They weigh, about 30-40 grams.
  • They mostly eat berries, and twigs.
  • They are about 14.5 cm.
