THE LIFE OF SHAKEPSEARE

  • William Shakespeare was born in Stratford on April 23, 1564.
  • He died on his said date of birth in 1616 at the age of 52.
  • You can find his grave in the
  • chancel of Holy Trinity church in Stratford.

FAMILY HISTORY

  • He was born to Mary and John Shakespeare.
  • He had grandparents Richard Shakespeare and Mary Arden.
  • His children's names were Susanna Hall, Hamnet Shakespeare, and Judith Quiney.
  • Anne Hathaway was his wife.

HIS CAREER

  • He was a poet and playwright who wrote 38 plays,154 sonnets, and two poems.
  • He spent his adult life in London from about 1585-92.
  • He wrote plays for Lord Chamberlain's Men, later known as the King's Men.
  • The Globe Theatre was the name of Shakespeare's theatre.

  • There were three classes of poor, the able bodied but unwilling class blamed for spread of disease and wanderer may be whipped by the constabulary
  • Some children married as young as seven years old.
  • In 1563, the Black Plague took about a fourth of the population.
  • About 25% of children died before the age of 10.
  • Ladies went to the theater wearing masks because it was unsavory.
