Why the Media DESTROYS us

by: Denise Montiano and Giselle Ormeno

Physical/Mental

  • Eating Disorders
  • Anorexia Nervosa
  • Bulimia Nervosa
How it affects us-

(Physically)-Ex: the media has portray a certain type of girl that you have to be to "fit in."
Creating physical and mental such as eating disorders

People with anorexia have a constant fear of gaining weight and have a distorted view of their body shape and size.

People with bulimia are exactly the opposite. They excessively eat more and more then later feel bad, because they ate too much and want to lose the calories they ate.

Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs

  • Does play a role
  • Affects mostly: Self-esteem
  • The media deceives us
  • Destroys self-confidence

In the levels of hierarchy, the media mostly affects the stage of self esteem, which prevents us to getting to that level of self-actualization.

The media has a way of giving off an impression that we must look a certain way in order to fit into what society expects us to be.

It destroys the confidence one has and their need to be a unique individual. Without that self esteem, it becomes difficult to overcome the insecurities we have about ourselves and gain that feeling of acceptance and meaning within us.

Media

  • Socio-cultural
  • Case Study
  • Affects our subconscious
  • Does destroy human perception
These were the types of approaches we came across.
