Who is Samuel Adams?

Early Life

  • Was born on September 27, 1722 
  • Graduated Harvard Collage in 1740
  •  Failed as a Brewer and Newspaper publisher before going back to Politics 
  • Elected tax collector in 1764, but over 8,000 taxes go uncollected 
  • Died on October 2, 1803

Political Career

  • Served as Massachusetts legislator from 1765 to 1774 
  • Founded Boston's Committee of Correspondence 
  • He was also a delegate in the Continental Congress. 
  • Signed the Decoration of independence 
  • Final political role was being Massachusetts governor from 1794- 97  

Sons Of Liberty

  • In protest of the of the stamp act Sam Adams formed the Sons of Liberty
  • With protest the Stamp act was appealed but followed by the Townshend act 
  • After the Boston Massacre Sam knew he could help reach independence     
  • Organized the Boston Tea Party and threw 342 boxes of tea in the harbor.

My Reaction
Samuel Adams was more than just some resistance leader he was a smart guy and had a good life it amazes me how little I knew about him and even though he had a huge impact on the colonies and the separation from Britain.
