WHAT WAS THE GOTHIC TRADITION AND WHY DID MACBETH BELONG TO IT

THE GOTHIC TRADITION WAS ABOUT:

  • Death,pain,loss.
  • Also It was quite romantic which when MacBeth was set was not a subject you often heard of.
  • People believed that it was a private subject.
  • Basically anything dark paranormal or spooky was The Gothic Tradition.
  • Creatures such as witches,gouls and vampires all are part of the gothic tradition.

WHO STARTED THE GOTHIC TRADITION

  • The gothic tradition was started by a group of Germans called 'the goths'.
  • 'The goths' used to fight a lot of battles and apparently they used to be larger than life characters.
  • They were not shy in showing there emotions weather they were happy sad or angry.
  • They were pretty rough and ready and slightly different which started the new dark trend.

WHAT THEMES IN MACBETH ARE GOTHIC...

  • Firstly there are witches in MacBeth which are gothic paranormal creatures.
  • A lot of MacBeth is set in dark scary places such as the woods,in the castle or just outdoors at night.
  • There is a lot of murder and death with in MacBeth which is gothic.
  • The witches bring a lot of disorder to MacBeth as a play and are key roles with in the story.
  • Also MacBeth does turn crazy which is gothic because he has fantasies about blood and a dagger.
