Why Family Goals and expectations are crucial

  • Some families goals or expectations can be based around their culture.
  • Their goals can be different from the ones you set.
  • The families may object to use of technology.

Questions the team members should ask

  • Will they use the technology in the community setting?
  • What skills or commitments will the community ill they use the technology in the community setting? d to implement to ensure your child is successful with the tech?
  • Do you want your child to perform daily tasks, or do you expect family members to do daily tasks for the child?

Goals for the family to expect

  • Child using the technology
  • Change in level of function.
  • Community acceptance.
  • Immediate and ongoing access to the technology.
  • The child will be like other children.

Relation to future teaching

  • It is important to consider what the families want for their children. I will always take what they want seriously and try to have a good middle ground for both the IEP team and the family to be happy. I will take the families culture and community into account to make better decisions for the student.
