PRESENTATION OUTLINE

What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

The Bauer Media Group are likely to own my magazine, this is because of the fact that they own three mainstream rock magazines Mojo, Q and Kerrang! which are sold in shops across the UK.

My magazine will likely to be sold in stores such as WHSmiths as well as clothing stores that act as a front for the magazine market.

It will likely be sold at the cash register to take advantage of decision fatigue (the idea that consumers make less rational decisions after a long day of decision making) put upon consumers.

There will also be an online version of the magazine that is released weekly but has less content than the monthly magazines. In addition to this a monthly subscription will be available for the magazine and include exclusive content.

Magazines in chosen genre sell relatively well. However, recently rock magazine sales have been declining slowly with the exception of the Rolling Stone magazine.

This is likely due to the fact that rock magazines following conventions tend to get repetitive and so gradually over time the fan base dies. This is not apparent in the Rolling Stone magazine as they subvert from conventions by having models on the front page of their magazine that are outside of the genre.

A famous example of this is when the Boston bomber was featured on the front cover; this controversial image doubled the sales of the magazine and goes to show that magazines must adapt to survive in the market.
