Photojournalism is a form of visual storytelling about newsworthy events and topics. It is a way of capturing a single moment in time that speaks for itself.

PHOTOJOURNALISM AS A PROFESSION

  • A photojournalist's main job is to remain unbiased and show the whole story.
  • Their photographs should portray what they want to tell the viewers.
  • A good photojournalist must also uphold a level of public trust, meaning that their photos must be accurate and eye-catching, to help viewers identify what the photojournalist is trying to report.

AS A PHOTOJOURNALIST

  • In 1930, she became the first Western photographer allowed to take photographs of the Soviet industry.
  • She was hired as the first female photojournalist by Henry Luce at Life magazine in 1936.
  • Her photograph of the Fort Peck Dam was so popular that it became featured in a series of commemorative postage stamps.
  • She also travelled to Europe to record Nazism's impact on Austria, Germany, and Czechoslovakia and to see how Russia was faring under Communism.

Illustrating an exact moment in time intrigues me. Even though I have not committed to any career path, I am interesting in pursuing photojournalism in the future.
