What Is American History?

Published on Dec 09, 2015

American history and what it is and means to some people.

PRESENTATION OUTLINE

AMERICAN HISTORY,

What Is It?
D.O.I.

American history is the past. It is all the events that helped shape what now is a more than successful country. It is the acts of people that helped make this country come true in the first place. It is a simple piece of paper that helped give inspiration and hope to American people.

HIS٠TO٠RY

  • The study of past events, particularly in human affairs
  • From Greek word histōr 'learned, wise man'
  • Used as another word for 'The Past'

History can be complicated because anything can become history. A simple piece of paper can become history. Or even a dress!

Even YOU can become history my friend!

WHY DO I THINK EVENTS ARE HISTORY?

Because they are!

Important events that happened early or late in the US helped us shape and create the strong and independent country that we are today.

PEOPLE'S DECISIONS

And how they change history

Imagine what would have been of the US if our Founding Fathers and/or past presidents would have made the wrong decisions

If we hadn't had alliances and brave people to help us create the country we wanted to live in. Free of other country's rule

We did and we still do fight against ourselves at times. But US history is happiness too. Not just war and destruction

US HISTORY

And Happiness, Friendship, and Love

Like when we finally acquired the country we wanted. And when we became free. Free of slavery. Free of everything

Or when wars end and families are reunited

THAT IS LOVE AND FRIENDSHIP

And US history is full of it and happy memories

People often understimate the power and importance of history and important events from the past

If it weren't for importatnt stuff that happened in the past , that have become history, we wouldn't be stuck in this classroom learning about history

The thing is, people don't like learning about 'dead people' from the past

Or about places that no longer exist

BUT

If it weren't for history...

Would we have known that...

Thomas Jefferson wrote the Declaration of Independence based on 'Common Sense' by Thomas Paine

And he wrote it to give hope to people so they'll eventually help them fight for the cause

DID YOU KNOW...

At the end we all have different words and feelings to what American History is exactly.

THERE WERE LOTS OF PATRIOTS

Most Native Americans sided with the British during the Revolutionary War

The Declaration Of Independence was kind of like a break up song/letter for King George

It also excluded many colonists. Such as women, enslaved Africans, and Native Americans

The Revolutionary War happened thanks to something that people call 'The Snowflake Effect'

People were being forced to pay taxes to pay for the French & Indian War

First came the Stamp Act, which made colonists pay taxes for paper goods

Because colonists feathered tax collectors, Parliament was obliged to repeal the Stamp Act

Because Parliament was furious with the colonies they passed the Declatory Act.

Which gave power to Parliament to make any law in "all cases what so ever" leaving the colonists outraged!

Then came the Townshend Acts which put tax on...

AND PAPER

People from Massachusetts and other colonies came to Boston to protest!

Britain sends 'Red Coats' to calm the protestors

Red Coats and Colonists hate each other! Because they feel like the Red Coats are babysitting them

The Revolutionary War then officially starts with the Boston Massacre

A single Red Coat and Colonist get into a fight while the colonists are throwing snow balls at the Red Coats

The Red Coats shoot into the crowd, killing 5 people.

Crispus Attucks is the first to die. He was half Indian and half Black

In order to reduce tension Parliament repeals almost all of the Townshend Acts

Leaving the tax on tea which leads to the Boston Tea Party

Some colonists dress up as Indians and dump 340 chests of tea into the Boston Harbor, which the makes Parliament pass the Intolerable Acts

Leading up to the Boston Harbor being closed until the ruined tea is paid for and a new Quartering Act which required colonists to house British soldiers

If you didn't let them in your house would be burned to the ground

Then came a bunch of battles like the battle of Lexington & Concord, Bunker Hill, Dorchester Heights, Canada, New York, Trenton, and Saratoga. All giving the colonists stuff to lose or win

All these battles eventually leading up to the Battle of Yorktown where, with the help of the French, Washington and his troops make Cornwallis surrender

TREATY OF PARIS SIGNED

  • Officially ends Rev. War
  • Sets US border with Canada
  • Britain and US will continue to trade
  • The US is a country now!

Later France gives us the Statue of Liberty

The rest? Well... The rest is history
