- The average heavy equipment operator’s salary is around 50-60k a year.
WHAT IS IT LIKE?
- The job can be very demanding sometimes, you have to sit in one space for weeks on end. It can get very boring but as long as you like what you’re doing it can be fun.
To start training you need a high school diploma or a GED. Training costs about 9k and is 4 weeks long. This is for the program SAVEC provides.
REQUIREMENTS
- Commercial Drivers License
- Apprenticeship
There are different types of courses for different levels of machinery that you will be operating. For truck driving there are three levels.
There are job demands in Alaska but some of the stations that you have to travel to are in rural areas.
An automotive mechanic is a person who works on equipment either in their place of work or they can travel to rural areas who don’t have mechanics in their villages or towns.
