NOUNS

  • A noun names a person, place, thing or idea.
  • Nouns are everywhere.
  • Some nouns are abstract, concrete, common, proper, and compound.

ABSTRACT NOUNS

  • Abstract nouns are ideas or concepts.
  • Most abstract nouns end in ness, ship, tion, ty, and tude.
  • You can not use your five senses to locate an abstract noun.
  • Some abstract nouns are grace, shame, manners, jealousy, confusion, empowerment and embarrassment.

CONCRETE NOUNS

  • Concrete nouns are "sense" nouns. Nouns that you can locate through your five senses.
  • Most concrete nouns end in or, er, and ist.
  • Some concrete nouns are soldier, judge, artist, and terror.

COMMON NOUNS

  • Common nouns are a person, place, thing or idea that is only capatalized at the beginning of a sentence.
  • Common nouns do not name a specific person, place or idea.
  • Some common nouns are mom, dad, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, grandmother and grandfather

PROPER NOUNS

  • Proper nouns are people, places, thing or idea that are always capitalized.
  • Proper nouns name specific people, places, things, and ideas.
  • Some proper nouns are Nico, Mitchell, Jack, Scott and Eliza.

COMPOUND NOUNS

  • A compound noun is a person, place, thing or idea that is formed from 2 or more words that are nouns.
  • Compound nouns can be hyphenated, separate or combined nouns.
  • Some compound nouns are police officer, cooking oil, carwash, milkshake and haircut.
