PRESENTATION OUTLINE
Coordinating Conjunctions?
What are Coordinating Conjunctions?
Coordinating conjunctions are words...
...placed between other words, sentences...
...phrases and clauses of equal importance.
They are also known as coordinators and...
...are used to give equal emphasis to a pair
of main clauses.
A clause is a statement that is either true or false.
This is also known
as a proposition.
There are just seven coordinating conjunctions in English.
They are “for, and, nor,
but, or, yet, so”.
Here are a few
examples to study.
“For” is used to Explain or Rationalize...
“I am going to the shop
for I am hungry!”
“And” is used with "No Contrast or Equal"...
“I like pizza and I like Spaghetti too!”
“Nor” is used with "non" Contrasting Negative Ideas...
“They don’t eat out,
nor do they travel!”
“But” is used as a
Contrast or Exception...
“They smoke cigarettes, but they don’t
drink alcohol!”
“Or” is used with Alternative Items or Ideas!
“On Saturdays, they always go to the beach
or the park!”
“Yet” is used with Contrasts or Exceptions...
“He likes smoking, yet he never drinks!”
“So” is used for a Consequence...
“She received her salary yesterday, so
she celebrated!”
