LOUISIANA PURCHASE
The Louisiana Purchase was made by the United States for the shaded territory on the map from France. The purchase doubled the size of America just then.

LEWIS AND CLARK
The Lewis and Clark expedition was sent out by President Thomas Jefferson to explore the territory that was just bought by the U.S.

OPPORTUNITY

THE CALIFORNIA GOLD RUSH, THE OREGON TRAIL, AND THE HOMESTEAD ACT
The California Gold Rush exploded in 1849 and showed lots of opportunity for travelers and settlers. The Oregon Trail was used to get to the West Coast primarily, starting new lives for many. The Homestead Act made a deal to give land to settlers for a very low price, which people took advantage of.

TEXAS WAR OF INDEPENDENCE AND THE MEXICAN-AMERICAN WAR
The Texas War of Independence and the Mexican-American War were both vital to the growth of America and its population.

The Indian Removal Act and the Trail of Tears were both made by the U.S Government to get the Native Americans out of their land so the White settlers could take it.

These people benefitted from Westward Expansion because they gained a ton of land and natural resources.

THE AMERICAN INDIANS, AND THE FRENCH
These people did not benefit from Westward Expansion because the American Indians were driven out of their land and the French sold the Louisiana Territory, and look where it is today.
