SURVIVAL TIPS

Untitled Slide

  • Lying is the worst.
  • Communicate in a timely and respectful manner.
  • Your agenda is magical (and mandatory)!
  • Use your time wisely.
  • Kindly raise your hand.
  • Be polite and kind to one another.

SCHOOL RULES

Have students review a few things in the agenda:

Cell phones
Uniforms & free dress
Crossing and lines

the iPad

It will be a transition - up until now, you've never been asked to use it as a school tool.

Untitled Slide

  • There will be consequences!
  • It's a tool, not a lifeline.
  • Hands off!
  • You belong outside, not your iPads.

HOMEWORK

a necessary evil
Always will start in class.
Most of the time, have 2 nights to complete it -- prioritizing your work is super important!

Go over homework calendar on whiteboard and that agendas will be used everyday.

Things are written on the day they are due, not assigned - explain value in that.

HW is necessary because it teaches time management, practice of skill, and in maintaining deadlines.

ABSENCES/TARDIES

YOU are your best resource!
Discuss communicating before/after vacations and sickness.

Make up work

When we take attendance and why it's important.

This is YOUR time!

  • Independence & responsibility
  • Character counts!
  • Learn what works and what doesn't.
  • You decide how awesome this year will be!
It's your time to be independent, responsible, and to take charge.

This year is about choices and learning what works (socially and academically)

QUESTIONS?

Review email etiquette as well.
