Expectations of students

  • School starts at 8:00. 8:02 is considered late.
  • HW is given each night. Fridays may be lighter.
  • Students are expected to hand in assignments that are IMPRESSIVE.
  • What I say to my own children: Your only job is to be a dedicated student.
  • "Do more than what is expected."

Expectations of teachers

  • Educate and prepare your child for the future.
  • Inspire students to be their best.
  • Develop a strong relationship with parents.
  • Notify you of issues, concerns, and incidents (Remind)
  • Teachers and Parents work together to guide students.

Expectations of parents

  • Support your child by working with teachers.
  • Expect impressive work. If it's not high quality, redo it. 
  • Check folders every night. Sign forms right away. 
  • Email me when you are concerned or unsure of something.
  • Send your child to school every day* (no extended vacations)

Science!

Mrs. Guilfoyle will teach science

How is science taught with Mrs. Guilfoyle?

  • Science will focus on reading skills.
  • Writing is the focus of many lessons.
  • There will be many reports and essays.
  • Let your child type their work or handwrite neatly.
  • Encourage them to go above and beyond.

How can you support

your child's learning?

Ideas...

  • Go to museums
  • Research topics on the internet with them
  • Sign them up for an afterschool activity
  • Encourage them to do extra work.
  • Have higher standards than their "future boss"

Now, onto ELA and SS

ELA and SS

  • Students will receive 90 min. instruction of ELA daily
  • Social Studies will be taught every other week.
  • Reading logs will be sent home and must be signed.
  • Students will be taught how to write essays and stories.
  • Please help your child proofread their work.

NYS EXAMS

  • ELA will be given on  April 14th-16th
  • MATH will be given on April 22nd-24th
  • Each exam is three days long
  • We must prepare rigorously.

What's in store for your child?

  • Class trips (We need parents!)
  • GRADUATION!

How to get to GRADUATION DAY?

  • Graduation is based on...
  • ELA/Math exam scores
  • Test scores in class
  • HW and Classwork quality

FYI...

  • All birthdays for the month will be celebrated at the END of the month
  • There will be a graduation fee. (To be announced later in the year.)
  • Scholastic book order forms have been sent out. 
  • Please check your child's folder on a daily basis.
  • Email us if you have any questions or concerns (or happy comments).
