WEEKS 17-19 OF PREGNANCY

WEEK 17 BABY

  • Measured about 4.4-4.8in from crown to rump.
  • Doubled in weight last to weeks to about 3.5 ounces.
  • Fat begins to form helping heat protection and metabolism.
  • Hair on head, eyebrows, and eyelashes begins to fill in.
  • Lungs exhale amniotic fluid and curculatory and urinary system work.

WEEK 17 MOTHER

  • Shows an obvious swelling in lower abdomen.
  • Gains 5-10 pounds.
  • Increase in appetite.

WEEK 18 BABY

  • Measured 5-5.6inches from crown to rump.
  • Weights about 5.25 and reflexes kick in.
  • Taste buds begin to develop and can tell sweet from bitter.
  • It can swallow and get hiccups and will suck if its lips are touched.
  • Sensitive to light so will move to shield its eyes if light is shined on abdomen.

WEEK 18 MOTHER

  • Uterus is the size of a cantaloupe.
  • Be able to feel the baby move.
  • Mid-pregnancy ultrasound may be performed to verify due date.
  • Be able to tell gender of baby if in the right position.
  • Heart will work 40-50% harder to support your pregnancy.

WEEK 19 BABY

  • Measures about 5.2-6inches from crowning to rump.
  • Weights about 7ounces.
  • Skin appears red because blood vessels are visible throughout.
  • Vernix(creamy white protective coating) begins to develop.

WEEK 19 MOTHER

  • Feel mid-pregnancy aches and pains.
  • Lower abdominal aches, dizziness, heartburn, constipation,
  • leg cramps, swelling of an less and feet, and backaches are examples.
  • Dilated blood vessels might cause tiny temporary red marks(spider nevi)
  • on face, shoulders, and arms.
