Water pollution occurs when pollutants are discharged directly or indirectly into water bodies with out enough treatment to get rid of harmful compounds

For centuries, fecal waste and other pollutions were dumped in rivers, with "dilution the solution" to pollution. In the mid- twentieth many american rivers and streams were open sewers, choking everything from human waste to highly toxic industrial discharges.

Humans have done many things to cause this problem like littering and dumping trash in the water this has lead to be the second most imperative environmental concern

But humans have also made public service announcements to inform people about water pollution

The NRDC pressures the federal government to protect all U.S water under the clean water act. We also fight for policies and practices that ensure a safe and sufficient water supply through efficiency, pollution controls, better management, and infrastructure improvements

The effects of water pollution are varied and depend on what chemicals are dumped and in which locations

HOW THE WORLD USES WATER

  • About 70 percent for irrigation
  • About 22 percent for industry
  • About 8 percent for domestic use
