PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Water Cycle

the cycle of processes by which water circulates between the earth's oceans, atmosphere, and land

Precipitation

water droplets fall in the form of rain, sleet, snow, hail

Condensation

cooling of water in the atmosphere, changing gas to liquid

Evaporation

water changes from liquid to gas, caused by heat

Transpiration

passage of water vapor from a plant to the atmosphere

Run-off

rainfall not absorbed by soil and travels to the ocean

NEVER ENDS!

Air mass

  • a huge body of air that has similar temperature, pressure, and humidity throughout

Cold Front

  • weather front in which a cold air mass moves into and under a warm air mass, creates a narrow band of intense precipitation

Front

boundary separating two masses of air of different densities

Occluded Front

  • Cut off, as the warm air mass at an occluded front is cut from the ground by cooler air beneath it

Stationary Front

  • a boundary between air masses that don't move possibly causing rain for several days

Warm Front

  • the leading edge of a warm air mass overtaking a cooler, slower air mass

Low Pressure

  • a condition of the atmosphere in which the pressure is below average and almost always causes rain

High Pressure

  • a condition of the atmosphere in which the pressure is above average, typically bringing nice weather
