history

  • Took place during the civil rights era (1960s)
  • East L.A. high school students fought for equality in the school system
  • Mexican-Americans were discriminated against in the school system 
  • Fought for "equality" stated in the Declaration of Independence
  • "We are Equal"

  • "We are created equal, but our schools teach us we're not."
  • Action groups like the United Mexican American Students were made
  • These action groups practiced non-violent protests
  • These groups had on purpose: to have a chance at a better education
