About:

  • Francios-Marie Arouet otherwise know as Voltaire was born in Paris.
  • Born on November 21, 1694- and died on May 30, 1778
  • He was a French Enlightenment writer, historian, and philosopher.

Accomplishments:

  • Voltaire was known for his attacks on the Catholic Church, his advocacy of freedom of religion, freedom of speech, and separation of church and state.
  • He was a versatile writer which means he wrote is all forms of literature.

  • He wrote poems, plays, novels, essays, and historical and scientific works.
  • He wrote more than 20,000 letters and more than 2,000 books and pamphlets.
  • He used his works for good; frequently to criticize intolerance, religious dogma, and the French institutions of is day.

Influence

  • Voltaire influenced the idea of "common sense".
  • People began to be more thoughtful, and use their brains about the things around them that are wrong.
  • He expressed his ideas, opinions, and thoughts in fiction. This changed the way people write and view stories.

Today:

  • Most people still use "common sense".
  • We have fiction now which many people share their ideas and stories through.
  • He was a role model which many people still follow without knowing it.
  • Voltaire changed society for the better even though we don't know or think about it.
