Potential Partnership for ACR at MMP/Healdsburg

Over the last year, I’ve talked a bit with Milo Baker CNPS folks about starting a Native Garden & Nursery for the Modini Mayacamas Preserves, where I serve as the Resource Ecologist – and educator.

I understand that the Milo Baker Chapter might consider donating left-over’s from the upcoming October 11 plant sale. We'd be very happy to receive any ‘North Bay’ natives that the Chapter could donate.

We would use these plants for a 1500sqft Native Garden in the front yard of our Office in downtown Healdsburg (226A Center Street, which is also a great location for public out-reach.

The garden will high-light the virtues of native plants in the garden and in the wild, and will serve as a bridge to our wildland conservation efforts on the Modini Mayacamas Preserves.

The Office will serve as a Visitor Center, and will have some space available for seasonal displays. We plan to offer education programs and workshops here as well, including a few spring wildflower displays each year.

We plan to use the backyard as a nursery, to produce plants for restoration on the Preserves.

In addition to any ‘starter plants’, we’d like to propose long-term collaboration with the Milo Baker Chapter on all of these, so that the Garden, Visitor Center and Programs would promote CNPS interests, as well as ACR’s.

I look forward to discussions and the possibility of long-term partnership, and hope to visit a bit at the meeting Tuesday evening. Thanks for your consideration. Sincerely, --Dave Self
