COMMUNIST NORTH SUPPORTED BY SOVIET UNION AND CHINA. SOUTH SUPPORTED BY U.S.

VIETNAM WAS A FRENCH COLONY BEFORE THE WAR.

HO CHI MINH WAS A REVOLUTIONARY AND COMMUNIST WHO WANTED FREEDOM.

HO CHI MINH'S REBELS BEGAN TO FIGHT THE FRENCH.

THEY ASKED THE US FOR AID, BUT THE US REFUSED.

1950

US SENDS AID TO THE FRENCH TO TRY AND CONTAIN COMMUNISM

1954

FRENCH LOSES A MAJOR BATTLE AND PULLS OUT OF VIETNAM, BUT VIETNAM IS DIVIDED.

WAR HAS STARTED AND WILL LAST 20 YEARS
