Where is it located
Versailles is located about 15 miles southwest outside of paris

THE BEGINNINGS OF VERSAILLES

*Versailles was first built as Louis XIII’s hunting lodge.
*Later his son Louis XIV remodeled Versailles.
*Louis XIV then proceeded to move the court and government of France to Versailles .

INSIDE THE CASTLE
*Close to 10,000 people worked in the castle of Versailles
*It contains over 700 rooms, over 60 staircases and over 1,200 fireplaces.
*In Versailles there is and estimated 6,000 paintings and 5,000 pieces of furniture and more

The gardens

*Versailles contains an orangerie, which is a place for growing trees indoors and protecting them during the winter.
*The orangerie has large windows for sunlight,and it covers 7.5 acres of land

*The gardens covers about 30,000 acres.
*There are 400 sculptures and 1,400 fountains on the grounds.
*In the year 1979 it became one of UNESCO world heritage sites

The Hall of Mirrors (La Grand Galerie)

*The Hall of Mirrors measures about 240 feet long and 34 feet wide and has a 40-foot ceiling.

*There are 357 mirrors that go to floor to ceiling.There is also 17 large glass door
