This style of eating has shown a reduced risk of developing conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity, all of which are risk factors for heart disease. In addition, a 2016 study showed that omega-3 fatty acids were associated with a lower risk of fatal heart attacks.

Vegetarian
A vegetarian diet has been linked to a lower risk of cardiovascular risk factors. Studies have found that the more meat people consume, the higher their risk of type 2 diabetes. Vegetarian food tends to be lower in fat, especially saturated fats, and higher in fiber, than animal-based foods.
