PRESENTATION OUTLINE
The government has tried to make everyone equal to be as close to their idea of a utopia as possible.
Instead it has made many of the people there, very unhappy... if they remember their feelings.
The author effectively lets the readers know that the people are not happy, but doesn't go into a lot of detail about it.
The author gives a 'harsh' tone when going into detail about how the people are unhappy by just saying what it is.
Instead of going into detail, "there was a loud noise that hurt George's ears"
The author makes the tone harsher, and grim by saying "A 21 gun salute went off in his head."
This harsh tone makes the climax of the story better because when we think that it should be a lot more detailed, it isn't. Making the story that much better.
The author also uses tone to his advantage when he is describing the utopia of the emperor and the empress in a soft tone. (kissing the ceiling)
And when describing the people's dystopia, goes back to using the harsh tone.
