  • Uncle toms cabin written Harriet stoe, abolish slavery.

STATES RIGHTS

  • Nullification( states declare federal law unconstitutional) (taxes).

SECTIONALISM

  • Pride in your area not whole country.

BATTLE OF FORT SUMTER

  • The south won, the union surrendered
  • The significance of Fort Sumter is that it is where the Civil War essentially started. When the Union tried to resupply the fort and the South fired on the fort, the war was inevitable.
  • North: “we surrendered?!"
  • South: "YAY! We won!!!"

BATTLE OF ANTIETAM

  • Bloodiest single day.
  • Union victory
  • North:“we won”
  • South:“we lost”
  • After: scared/ scarred

BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG

  • It was the turning point of the war.
  • The south won
  • South: “finally victory.“
  • North: ”really we lost?“

BATTLE OF VICKSBURG

  • The significance of Vicksburg was that in effectively split the Confederacy into two parts, the West and the East.
  • Union won.
  • North:“yasssssss!”
  • South:“we should be the ones celebrating.”

EMANCIPATION PROCLAMATION

  • Free all slaves
  • “I am soo happy we finally have freedom.”

SURRENDER AT APPOMATTOX COURTHOUSE

  • The confederacy surrendered to the union.
  • Rel:“I knew we would loose the war, I had to surrender.”
